Today I was able to teach Sunday School at my church. It was great. I loved it. We had a lot of interaction today with the kids. When trying to define sin one boy said that sin was the devil. We cleared that up. Then when talking about Heaven one other boy said he wanted to go because he wanted to become an angel. So we had to clear that up too. But some of the other responses they gave were simply incredible.
But I suppose what got me most was a little girl named Jada. It's strange because I'm the teacher and so it should be all about me getting to them. Me reaching out to them. But instead, as is often the case, I ended up blessed by them. Jada grabbed a marker and began to draw on the white boards of our classroom once our lesson was over. Her parents were having refreshments and talking with other adults so Jada just stayed behind and drew. She wasn't supposed to and I think she knew that but she drew anyways. I was cleaning things up in the classroom so I didn't notice at first and once I did I weakened and just let her draw. The reason I weakened was because of what she was drawing. The board was littered with flowers and in the centre of the board was a heart. It wasn't a very good heart and yet it was one of the prettiest hearts I'd ever seen. Inside the heart she'd scrawled out "I LOVE GOD." Outside near the bottom, under some flowers, she'd written "To: God." She didn't sign it. She didn't put her own name anywhere on it. But God knew who it came from. And I'd be willing to bet that when He saw it He smiled. I know what I did. I got a lump in my throat and wished I could love Him as she did.
After a little while she came over to help me clean up and I was able to get a big hug from her. It was one of the best hugs ever.
